My Dear Readers,

In one of my early post, I discussed why Craft Shops (selling yarns, sewing threads, Knitting & Crochet supplies) are closing down in Singapore. The Craft Shops which I’m referring to sells yarns, knit, crochet items, cross stitching patterns, books etc. Sometimes there is a teacher in the shop, usually the owner who will teach you the craft. These are the kind of shops where I used to hang around. I remembered that when I’m about 10+ years old, there are these craft shops near my neighborhood, I used to stay at the East side of Singapore. However, now, as I last recall, there is none. (If you know of any in the East, please let me know, so I can add to the list.)

Today, I managed to gather some less than 10 surviving of such Business Owners on this Island. I only mentioned those who has a mortar and brick business, also do take note, these are not your usual haberdasher store.

So here is the list. (This list is essential for you for yarn hunting if you are visiting Singapore.) For overseas readers, if you are travelling into Singapore, do keep this list for your reference. You never know you will bring back bags of yarn or craft material from you visit here.

  3. Thanks for your quick reply. Indeed it is sad that Singaporeans are so caught up in their daily lives that they miss out simpler things. I have been knitting and crocheting for 20+ years and still obsessed with them. If you are still hosting the regular craft gathering this Sunday, I would like to join.

  4. Thanks for your article on knit shops in Singapore like u, I used to go to a knit shop in east (Bedok area) to learn to knit from the shop owner when I was 10plus too. But that’s like 30 yrs ago ! I’d check out the knit shops u mentioned, hope to find an auntie there who provide knitting advice and of course to stock up the materials and see if I still can remake some of my favorite designs. I specialise in doll / princess dresses those days !
